Conservation

Our most valuable natural resources are constantly under attack. As a society, we need energy, wood products, a place to live, food to eat and other necessary evils that cause harm to the world around us. Fortunately, there are ways to have these things and still demand responsibility. There is no new water on the earth. We must protect our surface and ground water. The state fish is the native brook trout and like the hellbender, it is a major indicator species for the health of our watersheds. The Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture claims that less than 5% of WV's historic brook trout populations are historically intact. There are other stories just like the brook trout here that must be heard.

By getting involved in your local conservation organization, you can give back to the place that you take so much from. The following list of organizations need help from people like you to make their wheels turn. Also, if you are involved in any of these organizations and their activities, please tell everyone about it on our messageboards. Enthusiasm is contagious.

The following list is not comprehensive. There are hundreds of watershed associations, freinds of 'special places' and other NGO's. You are not being left out, speak about your group on our messageboard and let us know what you're doing.
